A battle scene from the Gigantomachia: Heracles preparing to shoot his bow; helmeted goddess Athena in the Promachos (Fighting in the Front Line) aspect wearing scaly torso-aegis with snakes-fringe, carrying the Boeotian shield with the image of rearing, bearded snakes atop the head of Gorgon Medusa, and brandishing spear; god of war Ares (?) wearing the Corinthian helmet with its crest (equine mane-like comb) mounted on the ophiomorphic bracket-base. |
