The quadrupede and winged Dragon of Ares, guardian of the Ismenian Spring in the vicinity of future Thebes devouring the companions of the Phoenician prince Cadmos who eventually would slay the beast (the episode depicted in the background?) and sow its teeth in the ground, from which the army of the fierce Spartoi, the source of the future Thebes' elite would spring. |
